A screenshot of a chat between a father and his son is going viral at the moment, but for all the wrong reasons.

"Tyler" is 15-years-old and gay, and only recently made the decision to come out. So he decided to tell certain individuals in his family separately. He started with his two sisters, who were completely supportive of him. Then his mother, who was initially shocked – but got over it.

Then came his father’s turn. But it didn’t exactly go to plan.

Tyler received a tirade of negativity from his homophobic father, who even went as far as saying that his decision to come out was “worse than death”. Disgusting.

The Grade 10 student from Vancouver, Canada, made the conscious decision to post the chatlog online following the encounter, and since doing so he has received a wave of support. And rightly so.

It’s about time we all start accepting the way people want to live their lives. If you spend every waking minute worrying about other people’s life choices, then your life is being wasted. But, with views like that, maybe your life doesn’t deserve to be fulfilled.

Speaking to Huffington Post, Tyler said:

"I just wanted to be open about it I didn’t want to hide it anymore.

I was so, so thankful that my mom supports me. I’m upset with what my dad said, but I don’t hate him

I’m hoping there’s still the possibility that he could change, even it takes while. Maybe he could accept me, because that’s all I want… I just want him to be there for me."

He’s a kid with a head on his shoulders.
