Eduardo Rodriguez discovered a starving canine
on the streets of Granada, Spain. Eduardo was certain that even if he did
everything he could for the dog, she would still die. It seemed impossible in
the state her body was in; the 10-month-old was so thin that her bones
protruded from her body, so thin she could barely stand, so thin it was
expected that her organs would fail. But that’s not what happened, not even
close.
He instead brought the dog he named Barilla
to his rescue center. Barilla only weighed 16 pounds, so the staff hooked her
up to a drip. They created a special harness that allowed her to walk while
still supporting her own weight so that she could gain muscle mass. As the
weeks passed, Barilla began putting on weight. Her bag of bones body began to fill out. Eduardo was stunned.
“I’ve been rescuing dogs since I was a child
and I’m used to seeing them in a bad way, but I’ve never seen an animal in such
a terrible state as Barilla,” Eduardo told Daily Mail. “I look back at photos
of her after we rescued her and pictures of her now and she looks like a
different dog. We’re inseparable now… I was in a state of shock when I first
set eyes on her. The vet said several times during her recovery that he’d never
seen such a swift transformation and that most normal dogs would have died.”
